RUTH BUZZI TO BE WOMEN IN FILM DALLAS HONOREE

 

DALLAS, TX October 5, 2014 Award-winning actress and comedienne, Ruth Buzzi, will be one of this years Women in Film Dallas (WIFD) honorees at the WIFD Topaz Awards on November 22, 2014 at 7 for Parties in Dallas.


Currently residing in the DFW area, Buzzi is a Golden Globe Award winner, Television Hall of Fame Inductee, NAACP Image Award winner, and 5-time Emmy nominee. Known best for her character, Gladys Ormphby, on Rowan and Martins Laugh-Inand Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, Ms. Buzzi was a regular performer on Sesame Street as Ruthie the Finders Keepers shopowner. Before graduating from Pasadena Playhouse for the Performing Arts with honors, she earned her Actors Equity Union card at age 19 launching a career that has included theater, television, feature films, music videos, and commercials, for which she won a Clio Award. After nearly 60 years in entertainment, Ms. Buzzi continues to work and is active in fundraising for the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch in Medina, Texas.


Women in Film Dallas, celebrating its 30th anniversary, established the Topaz Awards in 1987 to honor distinguished Texas women and men who, through their own vision, have made outstanding contributions to the film and television industry. Previous honorees are a veritable whos who of Texans in the entertainment industry, including Linda Gray, Phylicia Rashad, Cyd Charisse, Larry Hagman, Ginger Rogers, Dale Evans, Linda Ellerbee, Debbie Allen, Peri Gilpin, and Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden.

Women in Film Dallas is a non-profit professional organization of women and men committed to empowering, promoting, and mentoring women working in film, television, and screen-based media by providing networking and educational opportunities. The Topaz Awards benefits the WIFD Grant and Scholastic Fund.
