Synopsis: War photographer Kate Brooks has covered human destruction in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria for many years. In The Last Animals, she turns her lens to a different kind of genocide: the decimation of African elephants and rhinos by poaching and transnational wildlife trafficking. In this comprehensive and disturbing examination of the poaching crisis, Brooks draws out startling connections between illegal wildlife trade, international border security and government corruption. She chronicles the conservationists, scientists and activists at the frontlines of the battle against poaching. And she falls in love with the magnificent creatures whose very existence teeters on the brink.
