Celebrating 35 Years of Empowering, Mentoring and Promoting Women

Women in Film Dallas is celebrating its 35th year of serving the Dallas Film community with a three day film festival from September 19-21, 2019.

The Topaz Film Festival, formerly known as Flicks by Chicks Festival, is a tribute to the return of the Topaz Awards and all that it stands for.

Topaz, the official gemstone of Texas, was thought in ancient times to enhance visions. In 1987, Women in Film Dallas established the Topaz Award to honor distinguished Texas women and men who, through their own visions, have made outstanding contributions to film and television history. With the Topaz Film Festival, we strive to honor past Topaz Award recipients and the vision of new independent female filmmakers. Past recipients include Shelly Duvall, Ann Miller, Phylicia Rashad, Katherine Helmond, Ginger Rogers, Debbie Allen, Patricia Richardson, Marcia Gay Harden, Morgan Fairchild and many more.

The Topaz Film Festival is an extension of the Women in Film Dallas Scholastic Grant Fund, a 501c3 that has, since 1991, provided financial support through grants and scholarships to women in the pursuit of media arts degrees and those in the productions of film, television and screen-based media. Proceeds from the festival will serve to fund the scholastic grant program for 2020. In celebration of our 35th year as an organization, our goal is to raise $3500 for 2020’s scholastic program.
